SENSOR SIGNAL CONDITIONER HAS RAIL-TO-RAIL INPUTS AND OUTPUTS
SUNNYVALE, CA—March 29, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the latest member of the smart signal conditioning family, the MAX1478, targeted for industrial control sensors. The MAX1478 can compensate for nonlinearities of piezoresistive transducers to better than 1% accuracy. Unlike previous products, the MAX1478 features Rail-to-Rail® inputs and outputs, allowing the outputs to swing within 50mV of the supply rails, an important benefit for applications requiring wide dynamic range.
The MAX1478 employs electronic trimming, eliminating much of the manual content of production, such as laser-trim. This greatly simplifies the manufacturing of sensor modules. Production flow is more efficient as the MAX1478 consolidates the manufacturing steps of pre-test, calibration, compensation, and final test. To speed development and improve time-to-market, the MAX1478 is also supported by Maxims new Pilot Production System, a complete production system that allows the user to quickly set up a manufacturing line. Running under LabVIEW, one Pilot Production System can program up to 110 sensor modules simultaneously. The basic system is available FREE to users committing to volumes of greater than 10,000 units per year. The system is available for lease to lower-volume users.
The MAX1478 has a complete analog signal path with integrated digital correction through four internal 12-bit DACs. These DACs can be programmed to correct for Span, Span TC, Offset, and Offset TC. A fifth low-resolution DAC can adjust course offset. The product can be programmed through a digital interface, and the correction coefficients can be stored in the MAX1478s internal EEPROM.
The MAX1478 is designed using the smart signal conditionings dedicated cell library of more than 200 sensor-specific functional blocks spanning from low-power op amps to integrated temperature sensors and DSP engines. For high-volume applications, Maxim can quickly customize the MAX1478 to optimize price and performance. Please contact Maxim for more details.
The MAX1478 is offered in space-saving 16-pin SSOP packages with prices starting from $2.95 (1000-up, FOB USA). The MAX1478 joins a family of sensor conditioning circuits from the low-cost laser-trim MAX1450 to the fully digital MAX1460. |
