200mA NEGATIVE LINEAR REGULATOR IN ULTRA-SMALL SOT23 PACKAGE

SUNNYVALE, CA—July 18, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1735, a negative voltage linear regulator in a tiny SOT-23 package that offers 1% accuracy, fixed or adjustable output voltage (-1.25V to -5.5V), and low dropout voltage of only 100mV at 200mA.

Several important features extend battery life in cell phones, PCMCIA cards, modems, and other hand-held portable equipment. The N-channel MOSFET regulator output allows this circuit to maintain low dropout voltage and low supply current (85µA) at any load up to 200mA. (Linear regulators with a bipolar output can have supply currents of several mA at full load). To further conserve power, a logic-controlled shutdown reduces supply current to less than 1nA. A unique scheme allows the MAX1735 SHDN pin to be driven by positive or negative voltages. Only a tiny 1mF ceramic capacitor is required at the output to guarantee stability at all loads up to 200mA.

Preset output voltages are available with ±1% accuracy at -2.5V, -3.0V, and -5.0V. Dual-Mode allows selecting either the preset voltage or using an external voltage divider to set the output from -1.25V to -5.5V. Other features include thermal-overload and short circuit protection. The MAX1735 comes in an ultra-small 5-pin SOT-23 package. The parts are specified for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start from $1.10 (2500 up, FOB USA).
