LOW-POWER, 10Mbps, ±15kV ESD-PROTECTED UPGRADES TO THE INDUSTRY-STANDARD 34C86
SUNNYVALE, CA—July 27, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3093E/MAX3094E quad RS-422/RS-485 receivers. These devices are pin-compatible upgrades to the industry-standard '34C86, making them ideal for parallel data transmission in telecommunications applications. The receiver inputs are ESD-protected up to ±15kV using IEC1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge, ±8kV using IEC1000-4-2 Contact Discharge, ±15kV using the Human Body Model, and ±4kV using IEC1000-4-4 Electrical Fast Transient, ensuring compliance with strict international ESD requirements.
The MAX3093E operates from a single +3.3V supply and the MAX3094E operates from a single +5.0V supply. Receiver propagation delays for the MAX3093E are guaranteed to within ±8ns (±10ns for the MAX3094E) of a predetermined value, ensuring device-to-device matching across all production lots. This performance is ideal for applications such as telecommunications equipment, where multiple data lines must receive data and clock signals with minimal skew with respect to each other. The MAX3093E/MAX3094E are guaranteed to operate up to 10Mbps and feature a one-quarter unit-load input impedance, allowing up to 128 receivers on a bus. Dual enable inputs, which control two receivers each, can be used to put the devices in a 1nA low-power shutdown mode where the receiver outputs are high impedance. Operating supply current is only 2.4mA.
The MAX3093E/MAX3094E are pin-compatible with the industry-standard '34C86. Both devices are available in the commercial and extended temperature ranges in a 16-pin SO, a space-saving 16-pin TSSOP, and a 16-pin DIP, with prices starting at $1.23 (1000-up pricing, FOB USA).
