COMPLETE +3.3V MULTIPROTOCOL CHIPSET SUPPORTS V.10, V.11, V.28, AND V.35 PROTOCOLS

SUNNYVALE, CA—July 31, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3170, MAX3171/MAX3173, and MAX3172/MAX3174 multiprotocol chipset. These devices are pin/software-selectable DCE or DTE ports that provide compatibility with the V.10, V.11 (RS-449/V.36, EIA530, EIA530-A, X.21), V.28 (RS-232), or V.35 protocols in a single connector. Compliance testing on NET1, NET2, TBR-1, and TBR-2, in addition to the standards outlined above, has been performed and verified by an outside test facility.

The chipset operates from a single +3.3V supply, allowing operation in low-voltage systems. The MAX3170 is a 3-Tx/3-Rx transceiver used to transmit high-speed clock and data signals. This device will typically operate at data rates up to 10Mbps in V.11 or V.35 modes, and 240kbps in V.28 mode. The MAX3171/MAX3173 is also a 3Tx/3Rx transceiver, but it transmits lower speed control signals. The MAX3172/MAX3174 contains five termination networks designed for use with the MAX3170, and a fourth transceiver used to transmit a control signal. The MAX3172 and MAX3174 feature 10µs deglitching circuitry on the receiver inputs to facilitate unterminated operation. All devices feature true fail-safe receiver inputs that guarantee a logic-high output if the inputs are open or shorted, or if the bus is idle.

The MAX3170, MAX3171/MAX3173, and MAX3172/MAX3174 are available in the commercial temperature range in a 28-pin SSOP, with prices starting at $18.33 (1000-up pricing, FOB USA) for the complete 3-piece chipset.
