LOWEST POWER 3V, 2.5Gbps SERIALIZER WITH CLOCK SYNTHESIS

Note to Editors: The MAX3890 is the first 2.5Gbps serializer that consumes significantly less than 1W of power.

SUNNYVALE, CA-July 2, 1999-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3890 +3.3V, 2.5Gbps, SDH/SONET 16:1 serializer with clock synthesis and LVDS inputs. The MAX3890 is ideal for converting 16-bit-wide, 155Mbps parallel data to 2.5Gbps serial data in SDH/SONET and ATM applications. It forms a complete four-chip 3V, 2.5Gbps transceiver solution when used with the MAX3867 laser driver with APC, the MAX3866 TIA and limiting amplifier, and the MAX3880 1:16 deserializer with clock recovery.

The MAX3890 includes a clock-generation function and features the lowest power consumption of any available 2.5Gbps serializer: only 495mW. Maximum jitter generation performance (3psrms) provides 1psrms margin relative to the ITU/Bellcore SDH/SONET specification. Operating from a single +3.3V supply, this device accepts low-voltage differential-signal (LVDS) clock and data inputs for interfacing with high-speed digital circuitry, and delivers 3.3V PECL serial data and clock outputs. A fully integrated PLL synthesizes an internal 2.5GHz serial clock from a 155.52MHz, 77.76MHz, 51.84MHz, or 38.88MHz reference clock. A loop-back data output is provided to facilitate system diagnostic testing.

Available in a 64-pin TQFP-EP (exposed paddle) package over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C), the MAX3890 is priced from $69.90 (1000-up, factory direct, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
