SINGLE RS-232 TRANSCEIVER IN 16-TSSOP CONSUMES ONLY 1µA AND INCLUDES ±15kV ESD PROTECTION
SUNNYVALE, CA-July 30, 1999-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX221E and MAX221 single, low-power RS-232 transceivers in a small 16-pin TSSOP package. They are ideal for diagnostic and maintenance serial-port applications that require only one transmitter and one receiver, saving space and power over traditional dual-transceiver solutions.
The MAX221/MAX221E operate from a single +5V supply and consume only 1µA supply current. Maxim's revolutionary AutoShutdown™ architecture minimizes supply current, while the serial port is idle without requiring changes to the BIOS or operating system. During active communications, both devices guarantee up to 250kbps data rate.
The MAX221E ensures compliance with strict EMC standards by integrating ESD protection on all RS-232 I/O pins to ±15kV per the IEC 1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge method, ±8kV per the IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge method, and ±15kV per the Human Body Model.
