INDUSTRY'S FIRST ±15kV ESD-PROTECTED RS-232 TRANSMITTER IN A SOT PACKAGE
Note to Editors: When coupled with the MAX3180E family of SOT receivers, the MAX3188E family are significant products.
SUNNYVALE, CA—February 15, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3188E family of single RS-232 transmitters, designed for space and cost-constrained applications requiring minimal RS-232 communications. The transmitter input is protected to ±15kV using IEC 1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge, to ±8kV using IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge, and to ±15kV using the Human Body Model, ensuring component compliance with strict European ESD standards.
These devices minimize power and heat dissipation by consuming only 1µA supply current from a ±4.5V to ±6.0V supply, and guarantee true RS-232 performance up to 250kbps data rate for the MAX3188E and 1Mbps data rate for the MAX3189E. The MAX3188E/MAX3189E feature a three-state transmitter output and can be interoperated with more than 50 Maxim RS-232 devices. When coupled with Maxims MAX3180E line of SOT receivers, a complete SOT RS-232 transceiver can be implemented, saving board space and increasing design flexibility.
The MAX3188E family is available in the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) in the 6-pin SOT23 package, with prices starting from $0.75 (100-up, FOB USA).
