DS1821は、ユーザプログラム可能なトリップポイント付きのスタンドアロンサーモスタット、または1-Wire®ディジタルインタフェースを備えた8ビット温度センサとして機能することができます。サーモスタットのトリップポイントは不揮発性メモリに保存され、DS1821ユニットは、システム挿入前にプログラムし真のスタンドアロン動作が実現可能です。DS1821の動作温度範囲は-55℃～+125℃で、0℃～+85℃範囲での精度は±1℃です。DS1821との通信はオープンドレインDQ端子で行えます。この端子はサーモスタット出力としても使われます。
