900MHz SiGe LNA IN 6-PIN SC70 PACKAGE OFFERS VARIABLE IP3 AND GAIN STEP CONTROL

 
 

Note to Editors: The MAX2642/MAX2643 are the first SiGe LNAs available in a 6-pin SC70 package. NF and IP3 at 5mA (1.3dB, 0dBm) outperform the competition: HP MGA-87563 GaAs PHEMT (1.9dB, -7dBm) and Infineon BGA427 Si BJT (2dB, -5dBm), respectively.
SUNNYVALE, CA—May 17, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the industry’s smallest SiGe low-noise amplifiers (LNAs), available in the tiny 6-pin SC70 package measuring only 2.0mm x 2.1mm. The MAX2642/MAX2643 900MHz LNAs also pack the most features into a 6-pin package: variable IP3, gain step control, and low-power shutdown mode. The variable IP3 and gain step control allow the user to maximize receiver linearity performance without wasting supply current.

The MAX2642/MAX2643 provide 17dB gain, 1.3dB noise figure, and 0dBm input IP3, using only 5mA of current. By varying the resistor connected to the BIAS pin, the input IP3 can be adjusted from -11dBm to +1dBm, whereas the supply current varies from 2mA to 6mA, respectively. This feature allows the user to dial in the required IP3 without wasting supply current. The MAX2642 features a 13dB gain-step control, helping to extend the LNA’s dynamic range, while the MAX2642's gain remains fixed. The MAX2643 shuts down by logic control, whereas the MAX2642 shuts down by disconnecting the BIAS pin. Both amplifiers incorporate on-chip output matching, reducing the number of external components.

The MAX2642/MAX2643 are ideal for cellular and cordless phone applications, PMR/SMR, 868MHz/900MHz ISM, and as general-purpose buffers or driver amps. Both devices operate from a single +2.7V to +5.5V supply. Pricing starts from $0.89 (1000-up, FOB USA). A fully assembled evaluation kit (MAX2642/MAX2643EVKIT) is available to help reduce design time.
