±50V ISOLATED RS-422/RS-485 TRANSCEIVER IN A SURFACE-MOUNT PACKAGE
SUNNYVALE, CA—August 7, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3157 ±50V isolated RS-422/RS-485 transceiver ideal for noisy industrial applications and large local area networks. The ±50V isolation protects the device against ground differentials that destroy traditional RS-485 devices or interrupt data transmission. This device is a low-cost, surface-mount alternative to opto-isolated transceivers. The MAX3157 also features true fail-safe receiver inputs to guarantee a logic-high output level when the inputs are open, shorted, or the bus is idle, to ensure data integrity without using external components.
The MAX3157 operates from a single +5.0V supply and features a 25µA shutdown mode. Receiver phase and transmitter phase control pins on this device allow the user to reverse the polarity of the output signal to correct for improper wiring. This device offers pin-selectable half- or full-duplex operation to provide maximum compatibility with existing RS-422/RS-485 networks. The MAX3157 features slew-rate limiting to reduce EMI and reflections, and is guaranteed to transfer data up to 250kbps.
The MAX3157 is available in the commercial and extended temperature ranges in a space-saving 28-pin SSOP and a 28-pin DIP, with prices starting at $3.50 (1000-up pricing, FOB USA).
