HIGH-VOLTAGE STEP-DOWN DC-DC CONTROLLERS FIT IN µMAX

 
 

SUNNYVALE, CA—September 22, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1744/MAX1745 step-down DC-DC controllers. These devices operate at up to 36V input voltage and step down to a pin-selectable 3.3V or 5V (MAX1744) or an adjustable output from 1.25V to 18V (MAX1745). The MAX1744/MAX1745 use an external P-channel MOSFET to allow high output power capability (up to or exceeding 50W). Available in a 10-pin µMAX package, these devices set a new standard of space savings for high-voltage, high-power step-down DC-DC conversion.

The MAX1744/MAX1745 use a proprietary current-limited control scheme to achieve 90% efficiency over a wide range of output current. These devices operate at up to 300kHz switching frequency which allows very small external components. Quiescent current is a low 90µA and drops to only 4µA in shutdown. A 100% maximum duty cycle allows the lowest possible dropout voltage.

The MAX1744/MAX1745 come in a very small 10-pin µMAX package and are specified for the extended industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start from $2.75 (1000-up, FOB USA). A preassembled evaluation kit is available with recommended external components to help reduce design time.
