SMALLEST, HIGHEST EFFICIENCY DIGITAL CAMERA POWER CHIPSET
SUNNYVALE, CA-September 6, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1800, MAX1801, and MAX1802 digital camera power-supply chipset. The chipset consists of a highly integrated master chip (either the MAX1800 or the MAX1802) and the optional, low-cost MAX1801 slave chip for flexibility. Use these chips to provide all of the voltage outputs required in your digital camera designs.
The MAX1800 and MAX1802 include high-efficiency DC-DC converters with synchronous rectifiers to give over 90% efficient conversion for the logic supply (which uses over 50% of the camera’s power). They provide complete power for the 3.3V logic, 1.8V core, 7V CCFL backlight module, positive and negative CCD biases, and positive and negative LCD biases. All supplies have independent on/off control.
The MAX1800 step-up master consists of an internal-switch step-up DC-DC, 3 step-up controllers, and a low-dropout linear regulator controller. It can also be configured as a step-up/down supply. The input voltage range is 0.7V to 5.5V, and it is intended for single-cell lithium-ion (Li+) and 2- or 3-cell alkaline battery inputs.
The MAX1802 step-down master consists of a step-down DC-DC controller, 3 step-up controllers, and a high-efficiency internal-switch step-down DC-DC for the core supply. The input voltage range is 2.5V to 11V, and it is intended for 2-cell Li+ and 4-cell alkaline battery inputs.
The MAX1801 is a low-cost SOT23 step-up controller used to provide optional power for accessories, such as motor drives for zooming and focusing. Its reference and oscillator inputs come from the master so they track each other and are synchronized to the same frequency for low-noise applications. Up to five slave controllers can be added.
The MAX1800 and MAX1802 come in small 32-pin TQFP packages, which have 5mm x 5mm bodies and are 40% smaller than existing TQFP solutions. They also eliminate external components such as power diodes, external power switches, and at least one transformer to save cost and size.
All three parts are screened for the extended industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). The MAX1800EHJ prices start at $2.93. The MAX1801EKA prices start at $0.80.
