INDUSTRY'S SMALLEST I2C-COMPATIBLE REAL-TIME EVENT RECORDER

 
 

DALLAS, TX–September 11, 2001 –Dallas Semiconductor introduces the DS1678 real-time event recorder that counts time and up to 1025 nonperiodic, asynchronous events, which are recorded in memory for easy recall. The first event is time-and date-stamped, with all subsequent events counted using the elapsed time from the previous event.

The Y2K-compliant clock combines an I2C-compatible real-time clock (RTC)/calendar, 1025 event recorder, 32 bytes of user SRAM, and power-switching circuitry. It can be programmed to automatically record on-off or open-close events, as triggered by a rising-edge input, falling-edge input, or both the rising and falling edges to record how much time an event is on and off. Event time resolution is programmable (seconds, minutes, or hours).

The DS1678 is ideal in applications where usage or access needs to be counted and/or verified for security, billing, or any related purpose. The device frees up the processor, reduces interruption, and provides a system timekeeper notable for ultra-low-power consumption. The I2C-compatible interface enables simple processor communication, and the 8-pin SO or DIP packages save space. Prices start at $2.64 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is also available.
