12-BIT DAS INCLUDES FLASH PROGRAMMABLE 8051 MICROCONTROLLER
SUNNYVALE, CA-September 27, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX7651. This complete data-acquisition system (DAS) features a 4-clock/instruction 8051 compatible microcontroller (2.5x faster than traditional 8051s) with two 8kb banks of flash memory coupled with a high-performance 8-channel, 12-bit ADC and dual PWM DACs. These features make it ideal for intelligent sensors, portable data acquisition, and battery-powered applications.
The 8-channel, 12-bit ADC converts at 50ksps with no missing codes and a maximum INL error of 1LSB. The integrated ADC supports both single-ended measurements and true-differential measurements with separate track-and-holds for both the positive and negative inputs. An external reference (from 0 to VDD) determines the full-scale analog input range.
In addition to high-performance analog, the MAX7651 also includes dual data pointers, three timers/counters, a watchdog timer, four 8-bit parallel ports, two serial ports, and an interrupt controller. The MAX7651 also features 16kb of flash memory in two banks of 8kb. This arrangement allows the microcontroller to read from one bank while programming a memory location in the other. An additional 256 bytes of RAM are also provided.
Operating from a single 4.5V to 5.5V supply, the MAX7651 consumes only 28mA (max) when operating at its maximum clock rate of 12MHz. Software controllable power-down modes and the ability to use clock frequencies down to 4MHz allow the user to scale power consumption to performance needs.
The MAX7651 saves significant board space and design time by combining a high-performance analog with a high-performance 8051 compatible microcontroller in a 64-pin TQFP. The MAX7651 is available in both the commercial (0°C to +70°C) and extended (-40°C to +85°C) temperature ranges, with prices starting at $7.73 (1000-up, FOB USA).
