フェイルセーフ、温度過昇アラーム付、±1℃精度のリモート/ローカル温度センサが次世代CPUを保護
SUNNYVALE, CA-May 17, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX6680/MAX6681 CPU temperature monitors, offering an unprecedented level of thermal protection for notebooks, desktop PCs, servers, and workstations.
The MAX6680/MAX6681 are precise digital temperature sensors that measure both the temperature of a remote-diode-connected transistor and their own die temperatures. The remote channel measures the die temperature of other ICs, such as microprocessors that contain an on-chip thermal sensing transistor. Remote accuracy is ±1°C from +60°C to +100°C and local temperature accuracy is ±1.5°C from +60°C to +100°C. Both devices feature extended temperature resolution (0.125°C), which allows precise monitoring of temperature-to-temperature variations.
Register-compatible upgrades to the industry-standard MAX1617 and MAX6654, the MAX6680/MAX6681 have an additional overtemperature comparator output, OVERT-bar, with programmable temperature thresholds. In addition, the default alarm threshold value of OVERT-bar can be hardware programmed by setting the CRIT0 and CRIT1 pins high, low, or open. The result is fail-safe hardwired power-up thresholds that can be used for clock throttling, to turn on a fan, or to shut the system down entirely. Both devices are packaged in a 16-pin QSOP, and the MAX6680 is backwards pin compatible with the MAX1617/MAX6654.
The MAX6680/MAX6681 communicate through a 2-wire serial interface accepting standard SMBus protocol. This interface is used to program the configuration of the MAX6680/MAX6681, including data format, alarm thresholds, and conversion rate. In addition, an SMBus timeout function ensures that the SMBus is cleared in the event of a system communication error.
Operating supply voltage range is from 3V to 5.5V and the operating temperature range is from -55°C to +125°C. At two conversions per second, average supply current is less than 180µA. Standby current is 10µA (max).
Prices start at $2.35 (1000-up, FOB USA).
