SUNNYVALE, CA-August 20, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products (Nasdaq: MXIM) introduces the MAX4364/MAX4365 bridged audio amplifiers in a tiny 8-pin QFN (3mm x 3mm) package. The MAX4364/MAX4365 are ideal for portable audio applications such as PDAs, cell phones, and smart phones where space is at a premium.
The MAX4364 can deliver 1.4W from a single 5V supply and 500mW from a 3V supply into an 8 load. The MAX4365 can deliver 1W from a single 5V supply and 450mW from a 3V supply into an 8 load.
The MAX4364/MAX4365 use a bridge-tied load (BTL) output stage to drive the speaker differentially. This provides up to four times the output power of a conventional, single-ended output stage and eliminates the need for output-coupling capacitors, minimizing external component count. The MAX4364/MAX4365 also feature a low-power shutdown mode, clickless power-up/power-down, short-circuit protection, and thermal overload protection.
The MAX4364 is available in a small 8-pin SO package offering improved performance and pin-to-pin compatibility with LM4861. The MAX4365 is available in tiny 8-pin QFN (3mm x 3mm) and 8-pin µMAX packages. The 8-pin QFN package consumes 60% less board space than the industry-standard 8-pin MSOP. An easy-to-use EV kit is available. Prices for the MAX4364 start at $0.46 and the MAX4365 at $0.45 (100,000-up, FOB USA).
