(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1573, the most efficient white LED driver in a tiny, low-profile UCSP™. This device drives up to four white LEDs with a regulated, constant current for uniform intensity. By utilizing an adaptive 1x/1.5x charge pump and ultra-low, dropout-current regulators on the low-side feedback, the MAX1573 maintains the highest possible efficiency over the full, 1-cell Lithium (Li+) battery input-voltage range. To ensure uniform backlighting of color LCD displays, it also matches brightness to within 0.3%. This charge pump is an ideal choice when generating white LED supplies for cell phones, PDAs, and digital still cameras, camcorders, and other hand-held devices with color displays.
The 1MHz fixed-frequency switching allows for tiny, external components. The regulation scheme is optimized to ensure low EMI and low input ripple. The MAX1573 features digital logic or analog PWM LED-dimming control, soft-start to limit inrush current, and complete input-to-output disconnect during shutdown (0.1µA shutdown current).
The MAX1573 is available in a space-saving, 2.1mm x 2.1mm
x 0.6mm, 14-ball UCSP, screened for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $2.09 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
