LOW-JITTER LIMITING AMPS HANDLE 1.25Gbps AND 2.5Gbps
SUNNYVALE, CA—January 21, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3264/MAX3265/MAX3268/MAX3269 family of limiting amplifiers for gigabit ethernet and fibre channel applications. The 1.25Gbps MAX3264/MAX3268 have only 14ps deterministic jitter, which provides 156ps margin to the gigabit ethernet specifications for high-yield, robust designs. The 2.5Gbps MAX3265/MAX3269 have even lower jitter (11ps). The 1.25Gbps limiting amps provide fully limited outputs with only 5mV input signals (input sensitivity), while the 2.5Gbps limiting amps have 10mV sensitivity.
All devices operate on a single +3.0V to +5.5V power supply, allowing each part to support both 3.3V and 5.0V designs. The MAX3264/MAX3265 have PECL outputs; the MAX3268 and MAX3269 have CML outputs. All devices have TTL-compatible LOS outputs with a minimum 2.5dB hysteresis to prevent chatter with low input signal levels.
The MAX3265/MAX3268/MAX3269 come in a tiny (3mm body) 10-pin µMAX package that is ideal for low-cost surface-mount applications in small modules. The MAX3264 and MAX3265 are available in a small (5mm body) 16-pin TSSOP package. Prices start from $6.59 (1000-up, FOB USA). These limiting amps will also be available as die (future product; contact factory for availability).
