+3.3V, 2.5Gbps CLOCK AND DATA RECOVERY IC SURPASSES SDH/SONET REGENERATOR SPECIFICATIONS
SUNNYVALE, CA—January 22, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3876 +3.3V, 2.5Gbps clock recovery and data retiming IC with CML outputs. The MAX3876 is a compact, low-power clock recovery and data retiming IC for 2.488Gbps SDH/SONET applications. It is designed for section-regenerator, terminal-receiver, and switch core applications in OC-48/STM-16 transmission systems. When used with the MAX3831 2.5Gbps interconnect mux/demux, the MAX3876 forms a complete backplane transceiver solution.
The MAX3876 operates from a single +3.3V to +5.0V supply, consuming only 445mW of power at +3.3V. The fully integrated phase-locked loop recovers a synchronous clock signal from the serial NRZ data input, which is retimed by the recovered clock. The MAX3876's jitter generation performance surpasses the SDH/SONET specification by 6.3mUIRMS. Typical jitter tolerance at 100kHz exceeds the SDH/SONET specification by 1.8UIp-p. Differential CML outputs are provided for both clock and data signals, and an additional 2.488Gbps serial input is available for system loopback diagnostic testing. The device also includes a TTL-compatible loss-of-lock (LOL) monitor.
Available in a 32-pin TQFP package as well as dice and specified for the extended-temperature range (-40°C to +85°C), the MAX3876 is priced from $49.95 (1000-up, factory direct, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available.
