(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9220/MAX9222 21-bit LVDS deserializers. These devices deserialize three LVDS serial data streams into 21 single-ended LVTTL/LVCMOS outputs. A parallel-rate clock received with the LVDS data streams provides timing for deserialization. The MAX9220/
MAX9222 have the falling-edge output strobe, while the MAX9210*/
MAX9212*/MAX9214/MAX9216* have rising-edge output strobes.
The MAX9220/MAX9222 feature a programmable DC balance, which allows isolation between the serializer and deserializer by using AC-coupling. The devices decode data transmitted by any of the companion serializers, including the MAX9209/MAX9211*/MAX9213/MAX9215*. The DC-balanced feature can reduce bit errors in the deserializer due to shift in the common mode caused by a ground shift.
The serialization reduces the number of wires or traces from 22 to 8, saving space and cost in system interconnect, cables, and backplanes. The LVDS input signals meet the requirements of the ANSI TIA/EIA 644 LVDS standard.
The MAX9220/MAX9222, with their companion serializers, are ideal for applications requiring high data rates, such as automotive navigation and entertainment systems, digital copiers, laser printers, network switches and routers, base stations, DSLAM, and central office switches.
The MAX9222 operates at a parallel-clock frequency of 16MHz to 66MHz in DC-balanced mode and 20MHz to 85MHz in non-DC-balanced mode. The MAX9220 operates at a parallel-clock frequency of 8MHz to 34MHz in DC-balanced mode and 10MHz to 40MHz in non-DC-balanced mode. The transition times of the single-ended outputs are increased on the MAX9220 for reduced EMI.
The MAX9220/MAX9222 require a single 3.3V ±10% supply, and are specified for operation from -40°C to +85°C. The LVDS inputs and outputs meet IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 ESD spec, ±15kV for air discharge and ±8kV for contact discharge.
Both devices are available in 48-pin TSSOP and QFN packages. Prices start at $6.30 for the MAX9222 and $3.90 for the MAX9220 (1000-up, FOB USA).
